Auto Translation vs. Manual Translation

Transtore provides two ways to translate your store: Auto Translation, which translates content displayed on your storefront, and Manual Translation, which saves translations to Shopify.

Using Improve translation with AI creates a saved manual translation, even though AI generates the wording.

Auto Translation

Auto Translation translates content directly on your storefront when customers browse in a target language.

  • Translated content may take around one second to appear.
  • The results are not saved to Shopify as manual translations.
  • Auto Translation results do not appear as editable translations in Transtore or Shopify Translate & Adapt.
  • Auto Translation does not update or replace saved manual translations when the default-language content changes.

See How does Auto translation work in Transtore?.

Manual Translation

Manual translations are saved to Shopify through its native Translation API.

You can enter the wording yourself or generate it with Improve translation with AI, using OpenAI GPT or DeepSeek.

To add or update a manual translation:

  1. Open Transtore > Language.
  2. Click Manage language next to the target language.
  3. Open the resource containing the content.
  4. Enter your translation, or click Improve translation with AI.
  5. Review and save the translation.

Bulk AI translation is available for Product only, with a maximum of 25 products per batch. Other resources must be opened and translated individually.

See Improve translations with AI.

What happens when the original content changes?

Saved manual translations are not updated automatically when you change the default-language content.

Open the affected resource, edit the existing translation or generate a new version with Improve translation with AI, then review and save it.

You do not need to delete the existing translation just to update its wording.

See Target language content is not updated after changing default language content.

Auto Translation can affect displayed text

If a saved manual translation is still written in the default language, Auto Translation may translate that text on the storefront. This does not change the manual translation saved in Shopify.

See Edited translation is not showing on the storefront.

Can I edit translations in Shopify Translate & Adapt?

Yes. Manual translations created or edited in Transtore or Shopify Translate & Adapt are saved to Shopify and remain synchronized between the two apps.

Auto Translation results are not saved as manual translations, so they do not appear in Translate & Adapt.

What about SEO and product feeds?

Some feeds and SEO tools read translation data saved in Shopify rather than the translated text displayed on your storefront.

If no manual translation exists for the content they retrieve, they may show the default-language version. Create manual translations for the affected content and check that the external tool is using the correct language and localized URL.

Saving a translation does not control when an external service refreshes its feed, cache, or search index.

See Google Merchant Center and SEO tools show default-language content.
